Hands-on Quilting Event Overview

This class is perfect for those who want to try before you buy or want to brush up on their skill. Learn how to load a quilt, adjust tensions, choose the right as wellas simple maintenance. Each attendee will develop a library of free-motion designs, work with rulers and templates as well as discover amazing new automation technology. We have limited this class to 12 people so you will get the greatest opportunity to learn. Open to all regardless of your experience or type of machine that you own.

Day 1 Morning Session

Take the Mystery Out of Longarm Quilting

Does longarm quilting interest you, and you’d like to learn more about it? Or do you just want a review of longarm basics? This class removes the mystery of longarm quilting by explaining machine and frame elements and features, how to load a quilt, and vital facts about thread, needles and tension. Longarm and frame systems come in various sizes and features for every budget. See how user-friendly new generation long arm machines have become and take your quilting to a whole new level of enjoyment. This class is perfect for all experience levels or if you want to discover if long arm quilting is for you.

Topics covered will include: 

Basic machine and frame elements and features; Bobbins, tension, needles, and thread: How to load a quilt onto a frame; Quilting with Groovy Boards and pantographs: Rulers, Micro Handles, and basic free motion. 

Day 1 Afternoon Session

Building a Free-motion Quilting Library

Building a library of free-motion quilting designs is fun – and it’s easier than you think! By exploring different designs - from simple blocks to an all-over design – you can create designs that can be used to complete any quilt. Learn how drawing a simple shape and then connecting it or just using a part of it can make finishing your quilts fast and fun.

Topics covered will include: 

Develop a library of free-motion designs; How to plan out a quilting path; Exploring different designs based on a basic shape; Adjusting your quilting path to create your own new designs; Using a grid to layout your quilting design and much more!

Day 2 Morning Session
Using Rulers and Templates

Looking for the perfect circle or wave?  Or how about a heart or arc? These shapes are all possible with consistency and precision when you use a ruler or template.  Learn the safe way to use these tools, starting with the right foot. We’ll explore designs like waves with channels, curved crosshatching, and echoing around applique.  Rulers will become your new favorite quilting design tool.

Ruler safety: Sure Foot, ruler base & the right rulers; Use ruler markings for precision and accuracy; How to mark for rulers; HQ VersaTool®:  stitch-in-the-ditch, cross-hatch, piano keys, clamshells, and arcs; Wave Rulers, modern and classic designs and much more!

Pro-Stitcher is an intuitive computer-guided quilting system designed especially for use with Handi Quilter longarm quilting machines. User-friendly and simple to operate, the step-by-step process for each function is easy and fun.  Whether finishing your own quilts or consider a quilting business, come see the elegant and precise quilting you can accomplish with Pro-Stitcher.
